It is important to note that travelers who possess an eVisa must enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. At this time, it is the only port of entry where foreign travelers can enter with a valid eVisa.
There are two types of tourist visas available, for a 30 or 90-day stay. Both options are available for a single entry only. This means that if travelers intend to leave the country and re-enter it before the visa expires, they need to apply for a new visa.
What Documents Do Ugandan travelers need for the eVisa?
Ugandan travelers need these documents to apply for an eVisa for Ethiopia:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry in Ethiopia
- A recent passport-size photo
All of the information provided should be accurate. Any update or changes in the information can lead to delays in obtaining the visa. This is also recommended in order to avoid issues at the Ethiopian Immigration counter upon arrival.

- A photocopy of passport
- Their passport (valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival)
- 2 blank pages remaining in the passport for stamps or notes from the immigration department
Ugandan travelers are also required to present proof of yellow fever vaccination. This applies to all citizens traveling from countries with risk of yellow fever and to those who have been transiting through the airport of one of these countries for more than 12 hours.
Once in Ethiopia, travelers should be aware of the duration of their visa and avoid overstaying as doing so can lead to fines and legal penalties. If necessary, tourists can request an extension before their visa expires. The visa can be extended for up to 30 days and in order to obtain the extension Ugandan travelers need to still meet all the Ethiopia online visa requirements.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Visa for Ethiopia from Uganda?
After completing the online application, it usually takes from one to three business days to receive the visa via email. Most visas are approved within 24 hours. The application process itself is a simple and safe one and it only requires a few minutes to complete.
Applicants simply need to provide their personal and passport details as indicated on the online form. All applicants must answer a few health and security-related questions. Finally, they will need to complete the online payment via credit or debit card. Once approved, the visa will be sent to the email address provided in the application, usually in the following 72 hours.
