Ethiopia is an African jewel awaiting to be discovered. The country launched an electronic visa system in June 12th, 2017, to simplify the process of getting a visa to travel to Ethiopia. Do Saudi Arabian Citizens Need a Visa for Ethiopia?
Saudi Arabian nationals who wish to travel to Ethiopia for business or tourism purposes must obtain a visa. Citizens of Saudi Arabia are eligible to apply for the eVisa for Ethiopia. The process of completing the Ethiopia eVisa application will take Saudi applicants a few minutes.
Applicants with a Saudi Arabia citizenship will need a passport, valid for at least six months from the expected date of arrival in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopia eVisa for tourism is a single entry visa that can be valid for 30 or 90 days. The Ethiopia eVisa will expire at the end of the trip, meaning that it is only valid for the period of stay in the country. In case that Saudi travelers wish to extend their stay in the country, they can head to the Immigration and Nationality Affairs Office in Addis Ababa. It is important to to apply for an extension at least a week before the eVisa expires.
An online multiple-entry visa is not available online. If Saudi nationals wish to obtain one, they must apply for one at an Ethiopian embassy or consulate.
What Documents Are Required to Obtain the Ethiopian Visa for Saudis
Saudi Arabians traveling to Ethiopia will need to meet a few essential Ethiopia eVisa requirements in order to apply for the eVisa. The following documents are required of Saudi nationals who wish to get their electronic visa:
- Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from the date you intend to enter the country
- A recent passport-size digital photo: the photo must be in color with face in full view
- A scanned copy of passport biographical page
- Credit card or debit card to pay for the visa
Depending on their travel history, Saudi applicants might need to submit a few more documents:
- Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (if you are traveling from a country with risk of yellow fever)
- Proof of travel insurance
- Recent bank statement of sufficient funds
Saudi Arabian nationals traveling with children
Saudi Arabian citizens who will be traveling with children must know that minors over the age of 14 must have their own Ethiopia eVisa. Those children under age 14 may be allowed to travel on their parent’s visa.
To include a child on an application, it is necessary to provide the following documents:
- A consent letter confirming the permission for the child to travel alone or accompanied by one parent
- Citizenship identification or birth certificate
- Other supporting legal documents: custody court orders, divorce papers, death certificate in the case of a deceased parent
Ethiopia eVisa Application for Saudi Travelers
Applying for the Ethiopia eVisa is a straightforward process. Saudi applicants will need to complete the application with a valid passport and will be required to provide their personal details including:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Street address
- Travel plans
Passport information must be accurately filled in on the application form. The passport used on the Ethiopia eVisa application should be the passport that the traveler will use when traveling to Ethiopia.
Applications are generally processed within 24 hours, though one rare occasions the process might take up to 3 days. Once the application has been approved it will be sent to the email the traveler provided on their application. Upon arrival in Ethiopia, Saudi travelers should present their valid passport and their approved eVisa.
