Ethiopia Visa Requirements

Basic Ethiopia Entry Requirements

Before applying for an Ethiopia eVIsa, applicants should revise the Ethiopia visa requirements prior to applying online. Failure to comply with requirements of the Ethiopian visa could lead to visa application forms being delayed or rejected. It is also imperative that visa applicants double-check the information given in the Ethiopia visa application form, as errors can also cause the application form to be delayed or even denied.

After filling out the application form, it will be necessary to provide your passport details and make a payment for the visa using a credit or debit card. The following supporting documentation can be provided later on:

  • A copy of the biographical page of your passport
  • A copy of your residency card (if applicable)
  • A recent passport-style color photo

Travelers with eVISA must enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Entering from other ports of entry is prohibited.

Passport Requirements

Check your passport before applying for your Ethiopia eVisa as the passport requirements form part of the Ethiopia visa requirements. It’s important to follow all the requirements in order to receive an approved Ethiopia eVisa and avoid visa application delays or rejection.

Your passport should:

  • Be valid and have at least six (6) months of validity as of the date of entry to Ethiopia
  • Have at least two (2) blank pages left
  • Enable you to travel to Ethiopia with an eVisa (see eligible countries below)

In the case that travelers have to travel with an Emergency Travel Document (ETD), checks should be made with your country’s authorities as to whether or not the document will be accepted. In most cases, Ethiopian authorities will recognise ETDs, although this does not guarantee your entry to Ethiopia.

Required Documents and Personal Information

Visa applicants are required to enter their personal information in order to complete the application form for the Ethiopia eVisa. Some of the information required includes the applicant’s name, date of birth, gender, passport details, health information, and nationality.

The information provided during the application process must be accurate. Incorrect information could lead to applications being delayed and even denied.

Please note: The eVisa for Ethiopia does not enable eVisa holders to work while in Ethiopia, nor work as a volunteer. Breaching the regulations of the tourist eVisa could lead to fines or possible imprisonment.

Vaccination Requirements for Ethiopia

Depending on your nationality and the countries you have recently visited, you may be expected to provide certificates of vaccinations that you have received, such as a Yellow Fever Certificate.

If you are unsure as to whether or not you require any vaccinations for Ethiopia, check your national health and travel advice to ensure that you follow all safety and health precautions.
